Value, efficiency and resilience are the primary drivers
for strategic technology engagements; however BT Engage IT can
help its clients to achieve so much more. The BT Engage IT strategic
consultancy approach ensures that the strategic aims of the
business are fully supported through the tactical deployment
of appropriate technology.
This engagement considers the Business Continuity requirements
of our client through an approach based on a combination of
interviews, technical audits and workshops. The engagement
deliverable provisions a presentation to key stakeholders
accompanied by a formal document identifying:-
• Key risks to IT services
• The business impact of each key risk on the client's
operations
• A plan to mitigate the most significant business impact
This engagement will leave the client equipped to complete
the detail planning, then test and maintain that plan. BT Engage IT believe it is essential that these latter stages are
owned by the business in order to ensure full adoption of
the business continuity ethos.
The deliverable provides a clear definition of the IT services
required to support business operations and an understanding
of the risks that need to be considered, the business impact
any outage would have and identification of a plan to mitigate
the risks identified to maintain business IT services during
the hours of operation. Within the deliverable, BT Engage IT consultants
will also assess the current capability of IT to provide existing
and meet future service requirements, from which a 'gap'
analysis will be identified.
Following the initial engagement, BT Engage IT strategic consultants
will work with its clients to recommend solutions in order
to eliminate any gaps identified. The detailed activities
for each stage are detailed overleaf.
BT Engage IT work in a structured and objective way across the
technology spectrum to deliver a successful conclusion. Experienced
in offering collaborative support as either a member of a
client's management team or solely as a services supplier,
BT Engage IT have a flexible approach to meet the specific needs
of the client. Whether a client or supplier-based engagement,
the consultants seek to understand the objectives of the client's
business.
The approach to a Business Continuity engagement can be broken
down into three key phases.
1) Business Requirement Definition
• Risk Analysis
• Business Impact Assessment
2) Current Capability Assessment
• Current Provision
• Gap Analysis
3) Recommendations
• Definition
• Implications
Working with the key stakeholders, the BT Engage IT Strategy Consultants
will establish the business requirement for IT services including
availability, reliability, scalability and support. This activity
will include a risk and business impact assessment to ensure
that the true needs of the business are fully considered.
Detailed below are the Business Continuity Review phases covered
in the engagement.
Risk Assessment
This phase is a detailed assessment of both internal and
external risks that may threaten an organisations ability
to perform normal business functions. Mitigation and evaluation
reports are the key deliverables and they define the current
risk profile of an organisation.
Business Impact Analysis
This phase assesses how individual departments within an
organisation would be impacted by a planned or unplanned technology
disruption. BT Engage IT Strategy Consultants will seek to establish
critical time frames and priorities when restoring business
critical applications and technology functionality. The impact
is considered in both financial and qualitative terms.
Current Capability Assessment
Based on the output from the business requirements activity,
the consultants will conduct an assessment of the current
IT service capability to support the business requirements
identified. A technical assessment of the IT infrastructure
will highlight the relationships to major systems, networking
infrastructure, supporting people and process.
Gap Analysis
Utilising the information collected during the business
requirements phase and the output from the current capability
assessment, the GAP analysis will identify current areas of
exposure and the risk that this presents to the client's
business.
Plan
BT Engage IT will recommend potential technical solutions, together
with a road map, for the implementation of a Business Continuity
strategy for consideration of the key business stakeholders.
Particular focus will revolve around system interdependencies
at a hardware and application level together with the impact
on the organisations business functions.
The potential solution options will be clearly mapped back
to the risks and gaps identified.
The deliverables from this strategic engagement will be:-
1. A document detailing the following:
• The required service levels for IT
• The risks and exposures from loss of service
• The impact of loss of service on the business
• The current capability of IT to meet the required service
levels
• Solution options to meet the Business Continuity requirements
of the client
2. A formal presentation to key business stakeholders on the
findings of the review and the document content.
